The best ways to celebrate your graduation virtually

Graduation for some might look a little different this year, but SGEI wants to help you make the most of it! Graduation is a time to celebrate your achievements and appreciate how far you have come. Don’t let a virtual ceremony stop you from celebrating with loved ones. Here are some fun and safe ways you and your family can make your virtual graduation special.

Invite friends and family to your convocation

On June 10th, Seven Generations Education Institute is hosting a live virtual convocation ceremony to celebrate our secondary and post-secondary graduates. All SGEI graduates, their friends, and family are invited to view the live ceremony. Anyone planning to attend, including graduates, must register online on our graduation web page. This online celebration will contain a message from SGEI’s CEO, live drumming, an elder blessing, awards, diploma presentations and more.

Have a digital celebration

Choose a free digital service of your choice, such as Google Hangouts, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Facebook Messenger and celebrate together online! For an easy way to send out a link to multiple people, make a group on Facebook Messenger and then send your meeting link.

Play games virtually

Keep things entertaining and fun with some games! Some options include Pictionary, Charades, or a classic bingo game. For a game that focuses on you, the graduate, try the game “Two Truths and a Lie,” using details of your life. Are you meeting with family online? Try some digital games. The video chat app Houseparty has games built right in or check out this list of some fun virtual games!

Don’t forget to decorate

From banners and balloons to streamers and tablecloths, nothing says celebration like some fun decorations! Here are some fun DIY’s you could add to your celebration. Use SGEI colors, deep sage, charcoal, light stone, and cedar to make it feel like our traditional grad ceremony! A few decorations will make your day all the more special.

Dress to impress

Now’s the time to dress up, and don’t forget about the all-important graduation cap and gown. SGEI students will be able to pick up a graduation cap and gown on June 8th and 9th. Graduates can take them home to take photos with their families before returning them on June 11th. For more information about your gowns, visit the SGEI graduation web page

Take photos with loved ones

Even though you won’t be walking across a stage, make some memories and snap some photos! Try making your own at-home photo wall with balloons and a backdrop. If you take photos, tag SGEI on social media! You can find us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Search “SGEI” on Instagram under gifs and use our custom gifs for your stories.

Eat your favorite dishes

Even if you can’t entertain in person, this day is about you!. Whip up some of your favourite comfort dishes or keep things simple and support local businesses by ordering in! For this year’s grad gift, SGEI is giving graduates gift cards to local restaurants in lieu of our traditional sit-down grad dinner. Each graduate will receive a gift card from 1 of 3 local restaurants!

Congratulations to the class of 2021!

The time has finally come. You’ve worked so hard all year and despite a global pandemic, unexpected changes and too many Zoom calls, you did it! We hope all of our graduates have a fantastic graduation. To learn more about or register for our virtual convocation ceremony, click here.
