Services we provide
We provide counselling, support services, wellness activities, and personalized referrals to all SGEI students across every campus and location. We take a holistic and culturally informed approach to wellness, meaning that we care for the whole person – physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and culturally-to ensure that students can focus on their academics.
Free, confidential, short-term counselling sessions that fit your schedule and personal needs. Appointments are available in-person on campus or virtually.
Confidentiality
All counselling services are confidential (within the legal limits). Your counselling records are completely separate from your academic records.
What to expect
In your first counselling session, you can talk about whatever feels most important to you. Your counsellor will listen, ask questions, and work with you to decide on next steps — only if you want them.
Topics/areas of focus
Students are welcome to meet with a counsellor to make space to think things through, explore any of the following areas, or discuss any other topic they’d like!
- Managing stress, anxiety, or life changes
- Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or burnt out
- Dealing with grief and loss
- Relationship and family challenges
- Academic pressure and personal concerns
- Mental health strategies and coping tools
Not every conversation has to be a formal counselling session. Stop by for a check‑in whenever you need someone to talk to.
SGEI provides a number of on-campus supports:
- Free breakfasts and lunches for students
- Meal supports for students with food instability
- Supports for student parents, such as toys for children who come to campus, breastfeeding‑friendly spaces, and help finding resources
We host regular wellness days, self-care workshops, family activities, mindfulness sessions, and more. Refer to the Student Events Calendar for details.
If you need long-term counselling, specialized supports, or crisis support, we’ll help connect you with trusted local organizations and services in our communities and beyond.
