How you can prepare for your graduation

Congratulations, you are almost there! Graduation is such an exciting time for you and your family. You’re taking the next step in this crazy journey of life. Be proud of yourself and your accomplishments. We have put together a few ideas to get you through these next few weeks before crossing the finish line.

Do not let yourself get behind

If you want to enjoy your graduation day to the fullest, make sure you do the work to get there! This time of year, it is so easy to get distracted by the future and what to do after graduation. Maybe you are applying to college, on the job search, or wanting to further your post-secondary education. It is always essential to focus on what is at hand before pursuing your next goal.

Get your graduation photos taken

Graduation photos are not just for our school to have, but the images you and your family will look back on for a lifetime. Capture this moment in time by having your photos taken so you can reflect on this outstanding achievement. All SGEI graduates can sign up for graduation photos through Wolfe. A Wolfe photographer will be available on-site the morning of graduation. Students are encouraged to book their private portrait sessions ahead of time. Students will be responsible for purchasing their own graduation portraits.

Pamper yourself

There are so many ways you can pamper yourself before your graduation. Check out your local shops for a brand new graduation outfit. Or buy yourself something you have wanted for a long time to celebrate your accomplishment. You could even have a spa day at home to relax and reflect on the past couple of years. If you want someone else to do the pampering, SGEI has the perfect thing. Our Kenora campus has its student-run salon. All of these services are for the public to come and enjoy. This is an excellent opportunity to pamper yourself before the special day. Maybe a new hairstyle or a fresh manicure. There are so many options!

Check out our events calendar to see availability and how to book your appointment!

Plan for a post-graduation celebration

There are tons of different ways to celebrate your graduation. You could keep it simple by having a gathering with your closest friends and family. Enjoy the summer by having a potluck or BBQ. Maybe spend the day at the beach or your cabin/cottage. Whether it’s a small gathering with family or a larger party with friends, plan how you want to celebrate your achievement. Another idea is to plan a weekend getaway with your family or play some graduation games. Plan a day of activities that you enjoy because having a day all about you is one of the best ways to celebrate.

Update your resume

Update your resume to reflect your impending graduation and any new skills or experiences gained during your academic tenure. These additions can make your resume more robust and appealing to potential employers. Your career goals may have evolved during your time in school, updating gives you the opportunity to align your resume with your current career aspirations. Tailor your resume to emphasize relevant experiences and skills that support your career path because as a recent graduate, you’re likely entering a competitive market. Even if you don’t plan to start job hunting immediately after graduation, updating your resume prepares you for when you do decide to enter the workforce.

Network

Ue this time to network with peers, alumni, and professionals in your field. Attend networking events or reach out via professional networking platforms like LinkedIn. Networking can lead to job opportunities that may not be advertised through traditional channels. By building relationships with people in your field, you increase your chances of hearing about job openings and getting referrals or recommendations.

The day of your graduation

It will go by so quickly, soak in every moment and enjoy it. Reflect on the past years of your life and notice how far you have come and the amount of work you have put in to make this happen! It’s one more step you are taking in your life’s journey. At SGEI, we would like to extend a huge congratulations to all of our 2024 graduates; we cannot wait to celebrate your accomplishments in person!
