Welcome back to Seven Generations Education Institute (SGEI)! Whether you’re returning for another semester or joining us for the first time, we’re excited to have you as part of our learning community. A new semester brings new opportunities to set goals, build meaningful connections, and continue your educational journey with the support of our faculty, staff, Elders, and fellow learners.
As you prepare for the start of classes, it’s helpful to know what resources and services are available to support your success. From getting your student photo ID and accessing student services to enjoying free breakfasts and lunches, SGEI is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where every learner can thrive.
This guide is designed to help you start the semester with confidence by highlighting important information, campus resources, and helpful tips. Whether you have questions, need support, or are looking for ways to get involved, we’re here to help every step of the way.
Student Services & Supports
A new school year is the perfect time to be reminded that you’re never alone at SGEI. We offer a variety of student supports to help you succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
Whether it’s accessibility services, academic tutoring, computer labs, and research resources to financial aid guidance, OSAP assistance, and scholarship opportunities, SGEI is here to help you reach your goals.
Students can deepen their connection to Anishinaabe culture through Indigenous curriculum, language learning opportunities, guidance from Knowledge Keepers and Elders, and participation in ceremonies, teachings, and cultural events. These experiences help foster a strong sense of belonging and community while enriching the student journey.
Your well-being is just as important as your academic success. SGEI offers a variety of wellness supports such as counselling, wellness check-ins, free breakfast and lunches, gym access, and campus food pantries.

Whatever your journey looks like this semester, SGEI has the supports and services to help you succeed. Don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re here for you.
Free Breakfast & Lunches
At SGEI’s main campuses (Rainy Lake and Kenora), students can enjoy free breakfasts and lunches each day, helping them stay focused on their studies with worrying about their next meal. Fresh meals are prepared daily, and for students attending evening classes, meals are also available in convenient takeout containers. It’s just one of the many ways SGEI supports student success and well-being throughout the school year.

Get your Student Photo ID
All students will have their photo taken during orientation to create their official SGEI student ID card. Once your photo is taken, your ID will be printed and provided to you. Your ID can be used to sign out books from the library and access other student services throughout the school year. For new students especially, it’s best to be at orientation so you’re ready for the start of the school year!
Tips!
Set yourself up for success this semester by attending class regularly, checking your student email daily, staying organized, and asking questions when you need help. Make use of the supports available at SGEI, connect with your classmates, and remember to make your well-being a priority.
We Can’t Wait to See You!
