What is a Makerspace?

SGEI’s Makerspaces (located at the Fort Frances and Kenora campuses) are collaborative spaces open to everyone. Our spaces offer a wide range of technology and cultural crafts for creating, inventing, sharing, and enjoying a hands-on experience. We have the equipment, tools and supplies so you can get creating and making!

Who can use our Makerspace?

Our Makerspace is open to everyone: SGEI students, staff and the public. To use the Makerspace, you can:

  1. Sign up for a workshop
  2. Drop-in during our hours of operation
  3. Bring home a DIY Kit

Workshops

SGEI hosts a variety of free workshops, open to everyone. Refer to our website events calendar for the latest workshops, or stay-up-to-date with our upcoming workshops by subscribing to our monthly newsletter.

Drop-ins

We ask that all Makerspace patrons be trained before using our equipment. To get started using our Makerspace,

  1. Read our rules and regulations
  2. Book a tour/brief training session!

DIY Kits

Unable to make it to a workshop? Stop by our Makerspace and grab a DIY kit to create on your own at home. Available while supplies last. Upcoming kits:

Our Audio lab is a fully equipped sound recording studio. Talk to our Makerspace Assistant about using this space.

Our Makerbot 3D printer extrudes plastic filament into layers that build a 3D print.
