SUMMARY:Ozhitoodaa Wiigwaasi-jiiman (Let’s Build a Birchbark Canoe)
DESCRIPTION:Experience the traditional art of birch bark canoe building through hands-on learning with experienced builders\, Elders\, Knowledge Keepers\, and Anishinaabemowin speakers. \nParticipants will help build a canoe from bark preparation to launch while learning traditional skills\, cultural teachings\, and language connected to the land and waterways. \nThe week’s activities will conclude with a paddling opportunity on Sunday. \n\n\n\nRegistration is not required\, but please RSVP to have lunch provided for your day and have an additional entry in a canoe readiness prize! \n\n\nTo RSVP\, email elliep@7generations.org \n\n  \nFull Schedule \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, August 4 \n\n\n11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. \n\n\n\n\nOpening Ceremony at 11:30 \n\n\nLay out and bend up bark; prepare roots/other materials \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday\, August 5 \n\n\n9 a.m. – 4 p.m. \n\n\nStart sewing up bark\, add gunnels\, begin lashings; prepare roots/cedar\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, August 6 \n\n\n9 a.m. – 4 p.m. \n\n\nFinish lashings; sew up ends; prepare and place ribs\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, August 7 \n\n\n9 a.m. – 4 p.m. \n\n\nStart cedar sheathing; scrafitto work; ribs/sheathing\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, August 8 \n\n\n9 a.m. – 4 p.m. \n\n\nFinish ribs; finishing touches/scrafitto\, pitching\n\n\n\n\nSunday\, August 9 \n\n\n11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. \n\n\n\n\nLaunch Ceremony at 11:45 followed by lunch \n\n\nOpportunity for Canoeing
