Neil McLeod – Chiropractor – Couchiching First Nation

I was born in Fort Frances . I attended St. Micheal’s and St. Francis elementary school and Fort Frances High, graduating in 1992. I attended the University of Windsor graduating in 1996 with a Bachelors degree in Human Kinetics with a major in Movement Science. I then attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto graduating in 2001 as class valedictorian.

My wife and I moved to Dryden in 2001 and with the help of the Aboriginal Business Corporation, my private practice opened its doors in October of 2001.

The advice I would give any young person is to prepare for the future. If your future is important to you then take some time to plan for it. No one will prepare the future for you, you have to be the one to map out your course in life. It’s great to have dreams in life, but dreams without a plan will always remain just dreams.

I also tell young people that we will all hit brick walls in our life that will be in the way of us reaching or attaining a goal. “Brick walls are there not to stop us from achieving our goals, they are put there so we can prove to ourselves how bad we want that goal”

The one thing that has served me well is persistence. Calvin Coolidge says that it doesn’t matter how intelligent you are, how talented you are or how educated you are.. If you can not be persistent when pursuing a goal, then all the talent, education, or intelligence in the world is meaningless. This quote sits on my desk today!

Some kids get intimidated in life because they may not be as smart or as good in school as other kids. They may see other kids that are naturally better in sports then they are. I’ve seen many situations in which the person who persistently trains, studies and prepares themselves will prevail!
