Edwin Bruyere – Couchiching First Nation

I had always been interested in the sciences, even at a young age. When I entered I signed up for what was then referred to as “advanced” courses probably at the advice of counseling from my teachers. At some time during high school I decided I would like to be a Pharmacist, partly from talking to a Pharmacist that would come every summer to the tourist camp I worked at. I failed to achieve my goal at first and it wasn’t until I actually worked at a pharmacy that I rediscovered why I wanted to be a Pharmacist. By watching the Pharmacists, I realized that these individuals were highly skilled and respected for their knowledge. They were in an influential position within the health care system that provided them the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many people. I finally saw the opportunity that before I had only looked at. I could use this ability to help people in a meaningful way and could give back to the community that had given a great deal to me. Now that I am a Pharmacist I feel I am providing the type of care a Pharmacist should. I try to make the best of the opportunity that I have and continue to do so.
