Aboriginal Health Human Resource Initiative

Since January 2008, the Aboriginal Health Human Resource Initiative has been working (with SGEI) on gathering information from the Treaty #3 area in regards to health careers.

A shortage of health care personnel is apparent in First Nations communities and the time to act is now.  We are encouraging students and adults to become aware of this shortage and think about a career in medical/health fields.

Surveys were created, role models found, career fairs were attended and posters encouraging people to sign up in a health field were created.  We also had newspaper and radio ads broadcast throughout Treaty # 3 promoting this initiative.

Medical/Health Post Secondary courses are being offered at many area institutions that are starting in September.

We are hoping many Treaty #3 area residents take an interest and enroll to help off-set this growing concern.
