Personal Support Worker

The Personal Support Worker Program prepares students to work under the supervision of registered nurses or registered practical nurses.  The students will gain knowledge and skills through a variety of experiences in the settings of the classroom, practicum, community visits, and independent study.

 

Admission Requirements

· OSSD with Grade 12 English or Mature Student Status

· Current First Aid Certificate & Level C CPR

· And must meet clinical/lab field placement requirements which include WHMIS, Health Information Form, Confidentiality Form, Canada-wide Criminal Records Search, possible physical demand analysis plus a Certificate of Complete Immunization for TB, Rubella, Measles & Influenza including a current diphtheria/tetanus

 

Mature Students:

· Applicants aged 19 or over without the OSSD will be considered on the:

· Potential for success in college studies

· results on the Canadian Adult Achievement Test

 

Career Paths for this program:

Community employment, nursing homes, homes for the aged, retirement homes, rest homes, Red Cross, March of Dimes and personnel agencies for private care

 

Three (3) cohorts of delivery will be offered for this program.
