Information Technology Network Technician - 634C

Companies and organizatins, large and small, use computer systems that operate on networks. What, physically, is a network? A network is a series of cables connecting servers (which store information) to individual computers or computer workstations. Networks allow computers to "speak" to each other and share information.

IT technicians who specialize in networks install, configure, and maintain network servers and computer workstations. This can include running and repairing network cables. They also diagnose and correct software errors and create and maintain network documentation, noting problems and their solutions. Information Technology Network Technicians also deal with outside vendors who sell and repair network components and technologies.

Getting Started

A minimum of 16 years of age and completion of Grade 12 or Ministry approved equivalent is required. Prospective apprentices should have some English, mathematics and computer science high school courses.
