Biskaabiyang Bursaries Fall 2011
Elder Anne Wilson, Manitou Rapids, tells us about Biskaabiyang, remembering and return to your teachings. She tells us that this concept is about remembering who we are. She asks us to take a good look at ourselves and think about how we live our lives. As Anishinaabe people, we have been told to live with Mino Bimaadiziwin, good life teachings. We are to remember our teachings, be respectful of all our relations, honour the Earth, think with a good Anishinaabe mind, basing our actions in Anishinaabe knowledge. Anne tells us, Biskaabiyang, remember your teachings, let go of mainstream habits if you must to remember your Anishinaabe mind. We must remember those who have gone on to the spirit realm, those who lived on the land with the language and teachings and encouraged us to move forward. We must watch those who model these teachings today.

Sandra always encouraged the youth with whom she worked to develop to their full potential despite life's obstacles.
Sandra, an Ojibway woman from Washagamis Bay First Nation, was completing her Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree when she passed away tragically in a car accident in May of 2006. Seven Generations Education Institute and
