Program Overview

The goal of the Native Human Services program is to provide an accredited social work degree that offers knowledge, skills, and experience to work effectively with Native and non-native communities.

The program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work. Students who have at least three years of social work experience can take challenge examinations, which, if passed, constitutes credit for NSWK 3605 and any two 3-credit 4th year courses other than NSWK 4305 or 4605

To graduate, the student must:
  • Achieve a minimum 70% overall average on all NWLF and NSWK courses, and a satisfactory (SAT) grade in NSWK 3605 and 4605;
  • Complete all NWLF and NSWK courses with a minimum 60%, after no more than 2 attempts at any course;
  • Achieve a grade of at least 60% in all required NATI courses;
  • Complete all courses presented for the degree with an overall average of 60% (only courses completed at Laurentian University are included in the calculation of averages).
  • 60 NWLF, NSWK credits; 42 NATI credits; 18 other credits (SOCI, PSYC, ENGL). Total credits required for this degree - 120 credits.
