Indigenous Learning 2805 – Native Canadian World Views

This course is designed to introduce the student to the manner in which the world is viewed from the perspective of the Native peoples of Canada .  Through a comparative analysis of the many interpretations placed upon us the Indian perspective by mainstream society basic insights into the traditional Indian world view can be gained.  The course discusses some of the distinctive aspects of Indian cultural perspectives.  The significance of these aspects and their implications in contemporary issues concerning cultural, social, legal, political and economic matters is explored.

Political Science 2530 – Early Modern Political Thought

A study of the impact of early modern political thinkers on the re-definition of political activity in the West.  For example, the course will deal with the work of political thinkers such as Niccolo Machiavelli, Martin Luther and Sir Thomas More, who challenged the assumptions of the Christian/Catholic world view.  It will also cover the ideas of thinkers such as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who introduced ideas about the State of Nature , property, sovereignty and revolution into the Western political lexicon.
