Competition Rules

General Event Rules
  1. Each participating school may send no more than one (1) team from each Division. The school will determine qualification for teams. Division I will consist of grades 7/8 and Division II will consist of grades 5/6. Teams can be made by combining schools if there aren’t enough students from one school. School/team coaches are responsible for making the team roster.
  2. Teams shall consist of eight (8) members, two (2) of which are alternates. One team member will serve as team captain. Alternates may substitute for any team member at the beginning of any given game. Alternates must substitute for the entire game. Each team will have one (1) adult coach. Coaches must be named, and must accompany their teams at every game. Coaches will be responsible for the behaviour of their teams. Quest Committee members may not act as team coaches.
  3. Team rosters, including team members, alternates, coaches and chaperones must be submitted to the hosting Seven Generations Education Institute Gagwegakendamaawiziwin Committee by April 15, 2009. Roster changes must be made prior to April 22. Any changes after April 22 will not be honoured.
  4. All Gagwegakendamaawiziwin participants must be clearly identified by wearing a nametag. In the event of misrepresentation by a team member, the team will be disqualified.
  5. If a team is five (5) minutes late for a game, the game will be deemed a forfeit by the late team. Time will be kept by a Gagwegakendamaawiziwin Official.
  6. Video and audio taping of the competition by the teams will not be allowed. Only pre-authorized persons will be allowed to record the event.
  7. Official rules will be read to all teams prior to the beginning of the first game. All teams must be present at this time.
  8. Gagwegakendamaawiziwin Officials will ensure there is no contact between the playing teams, coaches, and audience during a game. Contact between the playing team and coach will be allowed only if a time out is called as a result of a dispute. (see sec. III, rule 5)
