UPDATE: May 20, 2020

Seven Generations Education Institute will remain closed to the public. SGEI administration is working hard to develop and health and safety plan to be implemented when our doors reopen. This detailed plan will include safety measures for staff, students and instructors to ensure that our campuses remain a safe space.

While our doors remain closed, staff are continuing to work from home to meet student needs, respond to student inquiries and help our community members apply to programming.

UPDATE: May 6, 2020

Seven Generations Education Institute campuses will remain closed until further notice. As our secondary and post-secondary programming is winding down, SGEI staff is hard at work preparing for the September 2020 semester. For current students that require support, SGEI is offering mental health and cultural mentorship counselling for those in need.

For those interested in continuing your education, our dedicated staff are continuing to accept online applications and work one-on-one with applicants. Our staff can be reached via email during business hours. Stay up to date with any updates by following us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

UPDATE: April 28, 2020

Seven Generations Education Institute campuses and offices will extend its closure until May 31st.  We will continue to support our students and communities during this time.  Student supports are available for all students and can be accessed by contacting any SGEI staff member.  There are also online sessions in language, culture, yoga, etc for students and staff to participate in every week.  Stay safe everyone and please check out the above links for additional information regarding COVID 19, government supports, and regional information.

Boozhoo,

To all the students that are currently scheduled to graduate on June 4, 2020 from various secondary and post-secondary programs, the graduation ceremony will be postponed until further notice.

In saying this, I want to assure you, your family and your friends that there will be a ceremony to honour your accomplishments at a later date.  This new date will be determined as soon as possible to allow you and your family and friends to make arrangements to celebrate.

UPDATE: March 24, 2020

Boozhoo Students and Communities,

At this time of uncertainty, we assure everyone Seven Generations Education Institute will continue to support students and communities in their education and learning goals.

We have extended the semester by two weeks to allow for SGEI instructors to prepare for transitioning program delivery from the classroom to online platforms.

SGEI students have access to their instructors and program coordinators through email, texts, social media and our website. Students will access their programming through various learning platforms such as Google Classroom, Zoom, and D2L. 

We will maintain student and instructor support for planning and adjustments as we transition through alternative instruction methods and then back to regular classroom instruction. We will maintain ongoing communication regarding anticipated timelines for reopening of campuses through Orubund, social media and our website.

UPDATE: March 17, 2020

Message for students

In addition to previous correspondence distributed by SGEI, please read the following:

  • If you travel/ed out of district any time after March 12, you will not be permitted to enter SGEI premises until we open our doors again or for 14 days after your date of return to the district, whichever is later. Please consider self-isolation for 14 days after travel. SGEI premises are closed to all students from March 14 until April 6.
  • Nearly all postsecondary programming is cancelled from March 23 to April 3. Please attend practical placements as planned unless directed otherwise by your instructor.
  • In the event that SGEI does not open its doors April 6th, you will be notified and classes will resume online using Zoom. For programming that can’t be delivered online, you will be notified in the coming weeks with further direction as to how your program delivery will be achieved. If you identify any barriers to online learning including internet or computer access, please contact your program coordinator by email.
  • Please continue to monitor the webpage http://www.7generations.org/?page_id=6673 and Orbund with the most up to date information.

Message for Instructors

  • Nearly all postsecondary programming is cancelled from March 23 to April 3. SGEI plans to compensate all sessional instructors as per existing contracts and course schedules.
  • From March 23 to April 3 instructors are expected to use this time to prepare for online course delivery through the Zoom platform. IT will provide every instructor with a Zoom login, so please watch for the email. It’s expected that this time will be used to become familiar with the platform and to upload all course materials and assignments to Orbund. The semester for students will resume April 6 whether our doors are open or we transition to online delivery for all postsecondary programming. Please contact program coordinators with identified barriers to these procedures moving forward.

Message for students

Classes

All secondary, post-secondary and training classes will continue with March break (March 16-20, 2020) as planned. 

SGEI will use this time to plan for alternative program delivery methods. We will update you in the coming week regarding class delivery and scheduling for the following weeks.

At this time, semester completion planning is underway, and discussions will take place within each division to ensure that students can complete the semester should the current situation change.

Our commitment to a safe learning environment

Over the coming weeks, Seven Generations Education Institute intends to take precautionary measures and have janitorial staff sanitize campus classrooms and student areas.

A reminder that we all share a responsibility to follow recommendations from public health officials aimed at preventing or slowing the spread of COVID-19, specifically:

  • Stay home when you are sick, return when you are well
  • Wash your hands with soap and water and/or hand sanitizer
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your sleeve
  • Avoid shaking hands and close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid sharing personal items and clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Message for Staff

Work

Unless you have taken time off, please plan to resume working as scheduled for the week of March Break (March 16-20).

If you are feeling sick or have recently travelled outside of your district, please stay home.

Working from home (March 23-April 5)

As many staff, students and community members are travelling over the March break (March 16-20), Seven Generations Education Institute has decided to close all campuses to all non-essential staff, students and the public from March 23 until April 6 until further notice.

Full-time, permanent staff will be paid during this time. Please work with your supervisors and directors to arrange for work plans.

More information will follow in regards to financial procedures (ex: purchase order requests) during this time.

For more information regarding essential staff, whether or not you are approved to work from home, or whether you will be paid during office closures, please contact your director.

If you choose to travel from March 23 to April 5, please inform your director.
