Seven Generations Education Institute offers a variety of training programs. Below is a list of training programs we regularly offer, but we can also customize training to meet your needs.
Our driver’s training program prepares participants to complete the written test to acquire their G1 driving permit and with our partnerships they are provided with the skills to safely operate passenger vehicles. With the in-vehicle portion of this program, they are provided with 10 hours of driving experience which prepares them to complete their G1 exit test to gain their G2 licence. We can deliver training in Fort Frances, Kenora and Sioux Lookout.
Hospitality & Tourism
Our hospitality & tourism training programs include certifications and modules in various occupations related to this industry. The participants learn about and gain certifications in Front Desk Agents, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage Serving, Smart Serve, Safe Food Handling, and other industry recognized certificates.
Freshwater Fishing Guide
Whether organizing a guided trip, or teaching people the basics, this program will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to become an exceptional Freshwater Fishing Guide and Ambassador, while incorporating your own personal experiences, history and values every step of the way. The program includes an intensive blend of in-class and on-the-job applied training based on the nationally recognized emerit Freshwater Fishing Guide certification.
Participants will also gain industry certifications including: WHMIS, Service Excellence, Smart Serve Food Safety,
First Aid/CPR, and Safe Boating. Program participants will also receive exam preparation support to challenge the emerit Freshwater Fishing Guide Certificate exam based on successfully completing the program and demonstrating work experience.
Participants in the residential trades program will learn the skills necessary to begin working in this industry.
Construction Craft Worker
The Construction Craft Worker (CCW) Apprenticeship is an extremely versatile program that offers the trainee the capacity to work in a variety of sectors and construction fields. Our program covers a broad base of skills including form setting, scaffolding, and concrete placement skills. Some of the tasks completed by a CCW trainee include, erecting and dismantling concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades required at construction sites. They mix, pour and spread materials such as, concrete and asphalt.
They may assist with demolition, remove rubble and other debris from a site and operate various power tools, machines and other equipment as directed.
Construction Craft Workers work on a wide variety of structures such as, residential, commercial and industrial buildings, as well as, hydroelectric dams, roadways, bridges and railways. With experience, Construction Craft Workers who complete additional training may specialize in many different areas of construction. This can include operating off road vehicles, drilling and blasting, diving and tunneling.
OTEC’s flagship customer service workshop, Service Excellence, developed with the most up to date service theories, best practices, tools and is a must attend program for those wishing to achieve excellence in the delivery of customer service. This dynamic, interactive and engaging one day workshop has been designed to prepare individuals with the skills and tools to create memorable service experiences resulting in customer loyalty and successful customer centered organizations.
The Leadership Development series of workshops deliver the how-to’s of effective leadership to create high-performing individuals. This two-day workshop develops leaders for organizational effectiveness and productivity. It also provides supervisors and managers with skills and tools to effectively lead and positively impact team performance resulting in employee satisfaction and retention
Seven Generations’ Workforce Literacy & Essential Skills program is designed to help adults prepare for employment or further job-related training. The 40-day program comprises 240 programming hours that help develop students’ communications, math, document use and employability skills. The program targets Essential Skills levels 2 and 3.
Workplace Literacy & Essential Skills uses a blended delivery model. Students participate in group-based, facilitated activities and carry out independent work using PLATO, an online learning platform. The skills developed in PLATO complement the skills developed in the facilitated component.
Our Pre-Employment training programs allow participants to meet the entry-level requirements to apply to the mining industry. Participants take part in various certification courses such as WHMIS, Violence and Harassment Prevention in the Workplace, Act & Regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, Introduction to Mining Safety, Think Safe: Operation Level Risk Assessment, and Working at Heights. Along with the industry certifications, participants take essential skills modules to meet or exceed the skill level requirements.
Our line cook program enables participants to learn the basics of the food industry. The program combines facilitation and coaching, with participant self-study and applied learning activities. This program has been designed with opportunities to observe skill demonstrations led by an experienced cook, and develop their skills in an operational kitchen.
This program was developed to provide participants with industry recognized certificates as indicated by employers in our region. Some of the certifications offered in this program include Safe Food Handling, First Aid & CPR, Smart Serve, Service Excellence, and WHMIS.
Camp Services allows participants to learn and acquire the skills necessary to enter the field of camp services or pursue further professional certifications. The topics covered in this program in Workplace Essentials, Canadian Workplace Essentials, Service Excellence, Safe Food Handling, WHMIS, First Aid & CPR, Smart Serve, as well as introductions to Remote Line Cook, Remote Housekeeping Room Attendant, and Food & Beverage Serving.
