“Trying to seek knowledge”
Quest For Knowledge
As an organization, Seven Generations Education Institute (SGEI) takes great pride in their role as educators and education leaders. The success of the organization is built upon a philosophy that is reflective of the strengths, values and traditions of the Anishinaabeg. For the past three decades, SGEI has embraced the traditional education processes – successfully utilizing culture, tradition, information and technology to deliver enriched learning opportunities to students of all ages. SGEI pursues its goal of developing and implementing an education system, that will meet the needs of the Anishinaabeg, so that they can succeed in the modern world; by providing community-based and student-centered learning opportunities. That is the spirit and intent behind Gagwegakendamaawiziwin.
Gagwegakendamaawiziwin is about delivering an engaging project that brings communities, educators and students together to celebrate the rich culture and language of the Anishinaabeg in our tribal area while promoting and commending academic achievement. Each year for the past 16 years, more than 1500 students in grades 5 – 8 have participated in this event.
Gagwegakendamaawiziwin 2018 – is planned for April 24th at Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation.
